Women haven't always been as well represented in the rap music industry as they are today. We had the original females like Lil Kim, missy Elliot and Nicki Minaj but women made up a small percentage of the artists succeeding in the industry. Of course there were many talented female artists but they just haven't been as well recognised. Now though, i believe that the time for female rappers has definitely come. So we've put together a list of females to watch in 2018/2019!
No. 1. Saweetie
Saweetie from California has taken the industry by storm after the release of her single 'icy girl'. I'd definitely recommend giving her a listen. She's got a hint of 90'S old school hip hop, and she's also an icon in terms of fashion.
NO. 2. Stefflondon
Straight from the UK, we've got Stefflondon. This girls made history after appearing on the front of XXL magazine , making her the first British artist to ever do so. She's featured alongside the likes of Giggs and French Montana. Her unique flow mixes the sounds of the UK with the sounds of Jamaica bringing something really special.
NO. 3. Asian Doll
Asian doll from Dallas, USA has been recognised for her fierce, effortless flow and quirky fashion sense. She has done a number of covers including a 6ix9ine 'Gummo' cover and even did her own spin on juice wrld's 'These girls are the same', which is one of my favourites but probably one for us women. She's also worked alongside Pnb rock and Bhad barbie. She's very into female empowerment and talks a lot about being a voice for women.
4. Kodie Shane
The 19 year old musician Kodie Shane has already collaborated with big artists like lil Yachty and Trippie redd. Not only does she rap but she sings too, this girl is set to be big. Growing up around music with a sister who was in a platinum selling girl group 'Blaque' and parents heavily involved in the industry has definitely turned her in too some sort of musical prodigy.
She has such versatility with her music, she switches between the sad rap style to the trappy styles and more.
5. Maliibu Miitch
One of my personal favourites, Malibu Miitch is straight out of the USA bringing the old school style. This girl can make any girl feel like they are a million dollars, so much sass and power in her music. She raps with a 90's hip hop vibe, definitely a hint of lil kim in there too. If you like hip hop and rap you NEED to listen to her.
Iamddb the Mancunian rapper and singer has made it big after her single 'Shade' reached 15million views on youtube . She's one of the most unique artists I've come across, bringing something truly different to the scene. Her mix of soulful vocals and wavey flows over american style trap beats have really stood out alongside her trippy visuals...
7. Rico nasty
Rico nasty also brings something really unique to the scene, another fusion of unlikely music genres. She takes inspiration from punk rock and rap to give an aggressive new school hip hop style. She's known for speaking her mind, making her another empowering female artist!
8. Ms Banks
Another UK Queen, Ms Banks is a strong and fierce rising star. I respect this artist even more after seeing her perform in Sheffield earlier this year. She's got an amazing stage presence you could feel her personality shining. She's not been shy of success and has even been seen pictured with Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. Nicki Minaj had apparently also hinted towards brining her onto her tour.
These women are just a few of our favourite females taking the rap game by storm, there are many more out there and 2018 is definitely the time for females in the industry.
