Chester Bennington, the frontman of Linkin Park is the latest high profile name to take his own life after a long battle with mental health. The artist was best known for songs such as 'One Step Closer' and 'Numb'. The music of Linkin Park helped to shape many people's youths and Bennington had earned the respect of many artists and peers worldwide.
It was well known that Bennington had struggled with depression and substance abuse for years. His addictions fuelled many of Linkin Park's biggest hits; his demons were the reason behind his success but they would also be the reason behind his downfall.
He was found at a private home Thursday morning. The coroner has confirmed that Bennington hanged himself. He was good friends with Chris Cornell of Savage Garden who also took his own life by hanging himself back in May. The day of Bennington's passing would have been Cornell's birthday.
As depression continues to affect more people than ever before, we need to seriously start addressing mental health issues and take more action to prevent people reaching an all time low.
